Why Travis Paints

As an artist my work has been about method and applying simple principles of 2-dimensional design. Subject matter has never played a major role in why I paint what I paint. It generally serves as a platform to make fun of preconceived high brow notions of what good art should be. In fact the more mundane and banal the subject matter the more intriguing the work becomes. Being an instructor of 1st year design students for the past 6 years I have had to strip my body of the knowledge into consumable fragments in order to teach students. This process has made me more aware of and appreciate the simplest elements of composition. As a result my work is about the means or methodology by which it is created and not about the subject matter.
